⚾️ Remembering Bobby Jenks: White Sox World Series Hero Passes Away at 44

Baseball has lost one of its fiercest competitors and most beloved figures. Bobby Jenks, the iconic closer who helped the Chicago White Sox end their 88-year championship drought in 2005, has died at the age of 44 following a battle with stage 4 adenocarcinoma.

Jenks, known for his intimidating presence on the mound and blistering fastball, was a two-time All-Star who carved his name into MLB history. In the 2005 postseason, he slammed the door shut on the Houston Astros, delivering crucial saves that secured Chicago’s first World Series title since 1917.

Throughout his career, Jenks recorded 173 saves—second only to Bobby Thigpen in White Sox history. He tied an MLB record by retiring 41 consecutive batters in 2007, showcasing his dominance and icy composure under pressure.

After retiring due to injury in 2011, Jenks never strayed far from the diamond. He shared his passion for the game as a manager in the Pioneer and Frontier Leagues, earning accolades like the 2022 Manager of the Year with the Grand Junction Rockies.

Jenks passed away in Sintra, Portugal, surrounded by family. He leaves behind his wife, Eleni, and six children. Tributes have poured in from the baseball community, with the White Sox, former teammates, and fans alike honoring the larger-than-life pitcher who always rose to the big moment.

The White Sox plan to honor Jenks at the upcoming 20th-anniversary reunion of the 2005 championship team on July 11—a fitting tribute to a player whose legacy remains forever woven into the fabric of the South Side.

Rest in peace, Bobby Jenks. ⚾️🕊️
