🌧️ Tragedy at Camp Mystic: Flash Flood Leaves Texas Community Reeling
Hunt, Texas — July 5, 2025 — What was meant to be a joyful summer retreat turned into a nightmare at Camp Mystic, a beloved Christian girls’ camp along the Guadalupe River. Overnight, a catastrophic flash flood unleashed devastation across Kerr County, leaving at least 13 people dead and more than 20 girls from the camp still missing.
Intense storms dumped 6–10 inches of rain across the region late Thursday night, swelling the Guadalupe River to record levels. The rising waters washed away cabins, downed power lines, and cut off roads leading to the remote campgrounds.
Local officials, alongside the Texas National Guard, US Coast Guard, FEMA, and hundreds of volunteer rescuers, are working tirelessly to find the missing. Helicopters, drones, and dive teams are combing the area, and families have been asked to stay clear of flooded zones to allow rescue operations to continue safely.
Parents whose children are unaccounted for have been directly contacted by the camp’s staff. Nearby camps — including Camp La Junta, Camp Waldemar, Camp Rio Vista, and Camp Sierra Vista — have confirmed that all their campers are safe.
With more rain in the forecast and roads washed out, rescue teams face a race against time. The entire Texas Hill Country community is rallying together, praying for miracles and offering support to grieving families.
