Seattle just made the call — and it is a big one. Super Bowl-winning quarterback Sam Darnold is OUT for Week 2 with what the Seahawks are calling a "very unique" soft-tissue glute injury, Reuters reports. The injury happened on play 5 of the season opener against the New England Patriots, when Darnold was sacked by Dre'Mont Jones. Darnold did not return to that game — and now he's officially ruled out for Sunday's trip to Arizona, per Reuters.
The good news for Seattle: Darnold's hip joint is unaffected, and the team did NOT place him on injured reserve — a strong sign they expect him back in under four weeks. Q13Fox reports the absence is expected to be short-term, with head coach Mike Macdonald saying his quarterback is "killing it on rehab." There is no firm timeline for his return, but the vibe out of the building is optimistic.
So who gets the keys Sunday against the Cardinals? Drew Lock. The same Drew Lock who came off the bench in the opener, went 16 of 22 for 187 yards and a touchdown, and led a 13-10 comeback win over New England. Jalen Milroe slots in as QB2. And the betting market isn't flinching: SI notes the Seahawks remain 4.5-point road favorites in Arizona despite the switch.
SNUBBZ TAKE
The champs don't flinch. Lock already won them one coming off the bench — now he gets the keys from the opening whistle. If Seattle wins in Arizona, the "controversy" talk starts itself.
