Taylor Swift to Receive First-Ever Artist Director Award at 2026 VMAs

Taylor Swift just made VMA history. Again.

MTV has announced a brand-new honor for the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards — the first-ever Artist Director Award — and Taylor Swift is the first person to ever receive it, per MTV and CBS.

The award recognizes musicians whose work behind the camera has contributed to music video production and visual storytelling — the directors of their own visuals, essentially. Swift is a seven-time VMA Best Director nominee and a four-time winner, making her the natural first honoree.

The 2026 VMAs air live from Los Angeles on September 27 on MTV and CBS, hosted by Snoop Dogg.

Swift is also nominated at this year's show for Best Direction ("Opalite") and Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography ("The Fate of Ophelia").
