The Vikings survived the Packers in Week 1, then the injury report walked in and said "nah, y'all not done yet." 😭
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Minnesota running back Jordan Mason has been placed on short-term injured reserve with a small fracture in his thumb — meaning he's out at least four weeks, with a return "in relatively short order" after that.
This one stings. Mason was the Vikings' leading rusher in the Week 1 win over Green Bay, piling up 59 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries — three more carries than veteran Aaron Jones. He earned that RB1 workload, and now he's watching from the sideline.
As if that wasn't enough, starting quarterback Kyler Murray is still in concussion protocol after the brutal hit early in the Packers game. Veteran Carson Wentz stepped in and threw three touchdowns last week, and he may have to do it again Sunday in Chicago.
The Vikings did add DeeJay Dallas to the roster for backfield depth, but let's be real — losing your QB and your lead back in the same week is not "next man up," it's survival mode.
Bears fans are licking their chops for Sunday's divisional matchup at Soldier Field. 😤
🧠 SNUBBZ TAKE: That's not depth, that's a prayer. 🙏 The Vikings beat the Packers and lost their QB AND their lead back the same weekend. Fantasy owners who drafted Mason just felt their stomach drop. Who fills the gap — Aaron Jones or somebody off the practice squad? 👀
